Three Girls Rescued as Hisbah Arrests Two Suspected Child Traffickers in Kano

The Kano State Hisbah Board has uncovered another disturbing case of child trafficking with the arrest of 58-year-old Besirat Tijjani from Oyo State and her alleged accomplice, 45-year-old Habibu Idris from Jigawa State.
Deputy Commander-General of the Board, Dr. Mujahideen Aminudeen, confirmed that the suspects were apprehended after a public altercation over payment for three underage girls.
Investigations revealed that Idris had been trafficking young girls from Jigawa State for ₦10,000 each. For the latest transaction, he insisted on receiving ₦15,000 per girl, a demand Besirat reportedly refused. The argument that followed drew the attention of bystanders at Fagge Motor Park, prompting Hisbah operatives to intervene.
Their timely response led to the rescue of the affected children: two 14-year-olds and a 17-year-old girl, all from Kazaure Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
The suspects have been handed over to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) for further investigation and possible prosecution.
The Hisbah leadership condemned the act and urged parents to stop sending their children away in search of uncertain opportunities that expose them to danger and exploitation.
This incident is a reminder of the protections guaranteed to every child under the law. The trafficking of children, their exploitation, and their exposure to harm violate their fundamental rights to dignity, safety, and protection from abuse.
Children are entitled to grow in environments where they are safeguarded from being bought, sold, or forced into exploitative situations.
