Fear and disbelief have engulfed the Odigbo community in Ondo State following the gruesome murder of a 15-year-old boy, Emmanuel, by his 26-year-old elder brother, Daniel. The shocking incident occurred on Monday near the isolated Origbara River, a well-known landmark in the area.

Eyewitnesses reported that Daniel lured his younger brother to the riverbank and beheaded him in a chilling act that stunned residents. A passerby reportedly saw Daniel trying to hide the severed head in a bag and immediately raised the alarm.

The incident has thrown the town into mourning, especially given that both brothers were sons of a respected police officer.

Though initial reports suggest a prior quarrel between the two, residents suspect deeper motives, including possible ritual intent. Community member Roland Akinkunmi recounted the horror and disbelief shared by locals, many of whom are still trying to process the unthinkable fratricide.

Following the discovery, enraged residents attacked Daniel, beating him into a coma. He later died from his injuries at the hospital. Police have confirmed the incident and said the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.

This heartbreaking incident is a violation of the child’s right to life, protection from all forms of violence, and against cruel, torture, and degrading treatment.
