UNESCO Prize for Girls’ Education Aims to Transform the Lives of Children Worldwide

UNESCO has opened nominations for the 2026 UNESCO Prize for Girls’ and Women’s Education, an award that goes beyond recognizing initiatives, it directly supports children’s right to education and their future well-being. By rewarding programs that demonstrate proven impact, the Prize helps scale and sustain solutions that can improve the learning opportunities, safety, and empowerment of girls worldwide.

Every prize awarded has the potential to reach thousands of children, ensuring that more girls can attend school, learn safely, and develop skills essential to their growth and independence.

In settings where girls face barriers such as poverty, social norms, or limited resources, the recognition and funding provided by the Prize can strengthen programs, expand access, and create more inclusive and transformative learning environments.

The Prize also signals the global importance of putting children at the center of education policies and interventions. By supporting initiatives with demonstrated impact, UNESCO amplifies efforts that give girls a real chance to succeed academically and socially, ultimately improving their lifelong prospects.

Nominations are made by governments of UNESCO Member States or NGOs in official partnership with UNESCO, with an independent international jury assessing each entry for its potential to generate sustainable, positive outcomes for children.

Winners will be celebrated on 9 October 2026 during the International Day of the Girl, highlighting that the Prize is not just about recognition, it is about creating lasting, measurable change in the lives of children everywhere.
