Child Abduction

Outcry as School Children Remain in Captivity for 45 Days in Oyo, Borno

Families and communities continue to wait anxiously as affected school children from Oyo and Borno States spend 45 days in captivity following separate school-related attacks.

The prolonged situation has raised growing concern about the safety of children in school environments across Nigeria. Parents have repeatedly called on authorities to intensify rescue efforts and ensure the safe return of the children.

In Oyo State, the affected pupils and teachers were taken during an attack on school communities in Oriire Local Government Area. In Borno State, similar incidents linked to armed groups disrupted academic activities and led to the abduction of learners and teachers during school hours.

Security agencies have continued search and rescue operations in both regions. Officials say efforts remain ongoing, with intelligence-led operations and coordinated ground movements aimed at locating and safely returning the affected children.

The extended period of captivity has also sparked renewed debate on school security and child protection measures. Education stakeholders have urged stronger protection around learning environments, especially in high-risk areas.

Meanwhile, community leaders and civil society groups have appealed for calm, while urging the government to act swiftly. They emphasize that children must be protected at all times to safeguard their education and future.

As the 45-day mark passes, hope remains that all affected children will be safely reunited with their families.
