The Kaduna State Government has intervened in a heartbreaking case of child abuse involving a 7-year-old boy, who was severely tortured by his father in Lere Local Government Area.

According to Rabi Salisu, Commissioner for Human Services and Social Development, the child’s father, Sani Tanimi Maishago, allegedly tied the boy’s legs and poured hot water on them as punishment for stealing biscuits. Shockingly, the child was also locked in a room for over 20 days without proper food by his father and stepmother.

By the time the ministry was alerted nine days ago, the boy’s legs were already rotting with maggots, leading doctors to recommend a double amputation below the knee to save his life.

The police have arrested both the father and the stepmother. They will face prosecution once investigations are concluded.

Salisu reaffirmed the state’s zero tolerance for child abuse, pledging that justice will be served to deter others. “The child’s social well-being is the state’s paramount goal,” she said.

The affected child is currently receiving care at Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital. The hospital’s Chief Medical Director, Abdulkadir Musa, stated that the boy’s recovery will depend heavily on access to artificial limbs. He urged parents to avoid excessive punishment, warning of its irreversible consequences.

The Kaduna State Government continues to stand firm on its commitment to protect children’s rights and ensure justice for abused children.
