Changes are Coming to Alabama School Social Studies Classes, Curriculum

< 1 min read

Alabama is preparing to update its K-12 social studies standards, which have remained unchanged since 2010. The revisions aim to increase emphasis on civics education and integrate more Alabama history into the curriculum. The effort, led by Geneva City Superintendent Ron Snell, emphasizes fostering a love for American and world history while ensuring Alabama history is not overlooked. Previous attempts to update the standards in 2021 were delayed after the state board banned critical race theory from K-12 education, prompting concerns about the adequacy of historical content in recent decades.
