ASPIRE INDY’s I RISE Summer Enrichment camp begins each morning with an assembly at Charles Warren Fairbanks School 105, where students from grades one to nine gather. The program incorporates Maya Angelou’s poem “Still I Rise” into its curriculum, emphasizing resilience and hope. Supported by The Mind Trust’s Indy Summer Learning Labs program, the camp offers free transportation, meals, and gift cards, ensuring accessibility for all. The initiative, which showed significant academic gains in reading and math for participants in previous years, has expanded to serve over 5,300 students in Marion County, funded by Indiana’s Student Learning Recovery grant. The program’s success has led to its replication in four other cities, addressing longstanding educational gaps exacerbated by the pandemic.
