Houston ISD teachers are set to voice their concerns at a City Council labor committee meeting on Thursday following the death of an eighth-grade student, Landon Payton, at Marshall Middle School. The student suffered a medical emergency on campus and later died at a hospital. The Houston Federation of Teachers is questioning the status of the school’s defibrillator, claiming it was not functional at the time of the incident. A former HISD nurse has alleged that she had previously reported a defibrillator with a dead battery, but no action was taken due to budget issues.
