Hanover School Board Considering Addressing Crowded Classrooms with Rezoning

The Hanover County School Board is exploring strategies to alleviate overcrowded classrooms, including potentially adjusting school zoning. They have hired the consulting firm MGT to assess how changing school assignments could address crowding issues. MGT representative Lance Richards emphasized that their findings are preliminary and should not be relied upon just yet. For the 2024-2025 school year, the board has approved the addition of two portable classrooms at Cool Spring Elementary School, which is currently over capacity at 104% with over 800 students. Richards expressed a preference for keeping students in permanent buildings rather than portable ones.
