Proposed Madison Charter School would Train for ‘High-Demand’ Careers

< 1 min read

A proposed charter high school, the Forward Career and College Academy, aims to address gaps in the public school system by preparing students for high-demand careers in fields like engineering, artificial intelligence, healthcare, and skilled trades. Spearheaded by philanthropist John McKenzie, the school will offer pathways to well-paid jobs, even for those who don’t pursue college. The Madison School Board will vote on the proposal in early 2024, with the school potentially opening in fall 2026. Initially set to be named Pathway Career and College Academy, the name was changed due to a pre-existing program in the district. The school plans to enroll 150 freshmen in its first year and grow to 600 students by 2029.
