Children Spotlight of the Week: Aelita Andre – Abstract Painter
This week’s Children Spotlight shines on an extraordinary young artist from Melbourne, Australia—Aelita Andre, a prodigious talent whose colorful and imaginative abstract paintings have captivated the art world since she was just a toddler.
Born in 2007, Aelita first began painting at only 9 months old, when she discovered her love for color and creativity while playing with her father’s acrylic tubes of paint. What began as a playful interaction with art materials soon blossomed into a unique artistic journey. By just 2 years old, Aelita had her first solo exhibition at the BSG Gallery in Melbourne, marking the beginning of a series of remarkable accomplishments.
A Rising Star in the Art World
Aelita’s work is categorized as Magical Abstraction, where she uses vibrant, expressive colors to create visually striking and thought-provoking pieces. Her art reflects a deep connection with the world around her, drawing inspiration from nature, animals, documentaries, and even the cosmos.
At the age of 9, Aelita became the youngest artist ever to have her work featured in a solo museum exhibition, a monumental achievement that earned her global recognition. Since then, she has had the honor of showcasing her paintings at 4 solo exhibitions in New York, 1 museum solo show in Russia, 4 solo shows in Hong Kong, 1 solo show in China, and numerous exhibitions across Australia.
One of Aelita’s most significant exhibitions was the 2016 ‘Music of the Infinite’ solo show at the prestigious Russian Academy of Fine Arts Museum in St. Petersburg, Russia. Her work was also displayed at other top galleries worldwide, cementing her position as a young trailblazer in the art world.
Her Artistic Process & Inspirations
Aelita’s process is organic and intuitive, with no formal training. She explains how she feels inspired by the world around her, especially animals, her favorite documentaries, and the vastness of space. While many young artists might gravitate towards childlike themes, Aelita’s work transcends typical “babyish” art, offering a perspective that resonates with people of all ages.
In addition to painting, Aelita explores other forms of artistic expression, including Touchpaints, Soundpaintings, sculpture, installations, and even music.
