The school district will decommission all Norwalk Early Childhood Center classrooms, moving them to elementary schools, starting in August, according to a district document Hearst Connecticut Media Group obtained.
The NECC preschool program opened just over eight years ago in September 2016. Its launch and early years were marred by concerns of limited space, Hearst Connecticut Media Group previously reported, and a 2019 state Department of Education report that alleged Norwalk lacked a uniform process for handling referrals, which led to delays in the implementation of Individualized Education Programs, in which investigators also questioned the amount of time special education students spent with non-disabled peers.
