Federal Unity Colleges Reopen Today as FG Boosts Security to Protect Students Nationwide
The Federal Government has pledged to enhance security for students and parents as Federal Unity Colleges in Nigeria resume operations today, 14th September, 2026, for the new academic session.
The Federal Ministry of Education stated that appropriate measures have been taken to ensure a safe, peaceful and orderly return to school, while the safety and wellbeing of the students and staff are of paramount importance.
Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa, Minister of Education, said the relevant security agencies had been notified of the resumption plans and would be alert on the Federal Unity Colleges and their environs.
The coordinated security measures are designed to protect students, teachers, school administrators and other school communities as academic activities resume nationwide.
Alausa advised parents and guardians to stay calm, trust the information provided and make preparations for their children to return to school.
He also instructed the school authorities to keep in close touch with security agencies and other concerned authorities for a safe and peaceful resumption.
The minister urged students, parents, teachers and administrators to collaborate to ensure peaceful and supportive learning environments, emphasizing that the protection of students and their wellbeing is a shared responsibility.
The ministry will keep monitoring and implement further measures as needed to ensure safe learning environments, it said.
The government’s guarantee follows broader worries about security and working conditions at some Federal Unity Colleges.
The ministry, in its Press and Public Relations office, Boriowo Folasade, advised students, parents, guardians and teachers to have confidence in the preparations for the new academic session.
