Utah Bill Proposes Gun Safety Lessons for Kindergarteners

Utah students as young as kindergarteners would be required to learn about firearm safety under a bill that passed the state House with strong support on Friday.
The Republican-led chamber approved the measure in a 59-10 vote, sending it to the Senate despite concerns from some gun violence prevention advocates. The bill mandates that public school students receive instruction throughout their K-12 years on how to respond if they encounter a gun.
The curriculum, delivered via video or an instructor (who may display an actual firearm), aims to teach best practices for handling and storing guns safely. Elementary-age children would receive at least three lessons by sixth grade, potentially starting as early as kindergarten.
