The House of Representatives has urged the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to direct all Internet Service Providers (ISPs) in the country to immediately block access to websites hosting obscene and pornographic content.

This resolution was adopted following a motion titled “Need to Block Internet Websites Hosting Pornographic Contents and Sanction Defaulting Internet Service Providers (ISPs),” moved by Rep. Dalhatu Tafoki during plenary on Tuesday in Abuja.

Tafoki highlighted the rising prevalence of explicit content online, emphasizing that Nigeria upholds strong religious and cultural values that oppose indecent exposure. He cited concerns about the negative psychological and social effects of pornography, including its potential impact on family life, relationships, and behavior.

The House further directed the NCC to enforce compliance using the Nigerian Communications Act and the National Information Technology Development Act. The Committees on Communications and Legislative Compliance have been tasked with ensuring the implementation of the resolution and reporting back within four weeks for further legislative action.
