Tragedy in Nasarawa: Five Children Suffocate in Abandoned Car

A devastating incident has left the Agyaragu community in Obi LGA of Nasarawa State in mourning after five children, aged 6 to 10, were found dead inside an abandoned car on Sunday, May 4, 2025.

According to reports, the children died of suspected suffocation after they were trapped inside an old, unserviceable vehicle parked in a residential compound. Some of them were found unresponsive at the scene, while others were confirmed dead at Aro Hospital, Agyaragu.

The affected children are:

  • Kamsi Onah (8, male)
  • Somer Onah (6, male)
  • Unice Udouchi (10, female)
  • Nmasoma Nnaji (10, female)
  • Chioma Nnaji (8, female)

The Nasarawa State Police Command confirmed the incident in a statement, noting that a full investigation has been launched under the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed.

“This heartbreaking event is a painful reminder of a similar tragedy in 2019,” said Police Spokesman, SP Ramhan Nansel, as he urged parents and vehicle owners to secure vehicles and remain vigilant to prevent future occurrences.

The children’s remains have been deposited at a mortuary in Lafia, the state capital.
