UTME 2025: JAMB Adds Ranking to Result Slips

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has introduced a new policy that will display the national ranking of each candidate on their 2025 UTME result slip.
This reform affects over 1.9 million candidates and is aimed at giving more context to raw scores, helping institutions assess applicants more fairly based on how they performed relative to others nationwide.
According to JAMB Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, the change is part of efforts to improve transparency, discourage fraud, and promote merit-based admissions.
Under the new system, a candidate’s position among peers will be indicated, for example, a score of 370 ranks 16th nationally, while 250 places a candidate at 107,819.
This shift is intended to reduce the obsession with high scores alone and to help universities focus on both the quality and competitiveness of each applicant. It also strengthens JAMB’s role beyond examinations, positioning it as a fairness and ranking agency for tertiary education.
This move supports the fundamental right to education, especially the right to fair and equal access to opportunities regardless of background.
