WAEC Fixes Technical Issues, Urges Candidates to Recheck Results

Source

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced the temporary withdrawal of the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results for School Candidates following the discovery of technical bugs.

In a statement issued Thursday by its Public Affairs Department, WAEC said it reviewed the results for Mathematics, English Language, Biology, and Economics after public complaints. The council explained that the issue arose from its recently introduced paper serialization process—an anti-examination malpractice measure already in use by another national exam body—applied in the four subjects.

An internal post-release review revealed technical glitches in the results, prompting WAEC to deny access on its online result checker portal until corrections are completed.

Candidates who had previously checked their results are advised to re-check after 24 hours from the time of the announcement.

WAEC apologized to affected candidates and the public, emphasizing its commitment to fairness, professionalism, and transparency.

“The Council remains dedicated to upholding excellence, fairness, and transparency in all assessment processes,” WAEC stated, assuring that the issue will be resolved within 24 hours.

This action underscores the importance of protecting the right of the child to accurate assessment, fair evaluation, and the opportunity to pursue education in a just and transparent manner.
