JAMB Result Delay Sparks Panic Among 2026 UTME Candidates
The delay in releasing the 2026 UTME original result slips has raised concerns about students’ right to education and academic progress in Nigeria.
On Tuesday, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) urged candidates to remain patient. It said the printing portal has not yet been activated.
JAMB spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin, explained the reason for the delay. He said the board recently concluded foreign examinations and is preparing for a mop-up test.
Some candidates missed the main UTME through no fault of theirs. JAMB said these students will sit for the mop-up examination.
“The printing of the 2026 UTME Original Result Slip has not yet been activated,” the board stated.
The board added that UTME is a ranking examination. Because of this, all processes must be completed before results are released.
Meanwhile, many candidates have expressed frustration online. They say the delay is affecting their admission plans and post-UTME preparations.
Some students also said they cannot proceed with course or institution changes without their result slips.
Education advocates warn that such delays can affect young people’s academic development. They say timely access to results is important for planning and decision-making.
In addition, experts stress that students need fair and equal access to examination processes. This is especially important for those affected by the mop-up arrangement.
They argue that delays can increase stress for candidates already under pressure. They also say it can disrupt smooth entry into higher education.
JAMB assured candidates that the portal will open soon. It said updates will be communicated once final adjustments are completed.
The board also apologized for the inconvenience and asked for patience from all stakeholders.
This development comes after JAMB set the 2026 university cut-off mark at 150. The decision continues to generate discussion among education stakeholders nationwide.
