Eight-Year-Old Beats 150 Contestants to Win Joseph Onuorah Foundation Spelling Bee Crown

An eight-year-old pupil, Master Chinemelum Chinonso of Gaius Benton School, Oko, has emerged winner of the Spelling Bee Season 3 organised by the Joseph Onuorah Foundation. He defeated more than 150 pupils from different schools across Anambra State.

The competition held at Ndiowu Town Hall in Orumba North Local Government Area. It attracted pupils, parents, teachers, and education stakeholders from various communities.

Chinonso, a Primary Four pupil, stood out for his confidence and accuracy. He competed against pupils from both nursery and primary schools across Orumba North and Orumba South.

He moved through each round with calmness and precision. Judges praised his strong command of words and his ability to handle pressure.

The final moment came when he correctly spelled the winning word. The hall erupted in cheers as organisers announced him as overall champion.

The Joseph Onuorah Foundation said the spelling bee promotes literacy, vocabulary development, and confidence among children aged seven to twelve. This year’s edition recorded strong participation from over 150 schools.

Founder of the foundation, Chief Joseph Onuorah, described Chinonso’s victory as a result of discipline and hard work. He added that the competition continues to raise academic standards among children in the region.

Chinonso received a cash prize of N200,000, a trophy, and a certificate for his achievement. Other outstanding pupils also received rewards for their performances.

Parents and teachers praised the initiative, saying it encourages children to read more and build stronger academic skills. They also noted its growing impact on education in the community.

The win has been widely celebrated as a proud moment for his school and community.
