Bauchi Man, 50, Arrested for Alleged Sexual Abuse of Nine-Year-Old Hawker in Katagum
A 50-year-old man, Muhammadu Audu, has been arrested by the Bauchi State Police Command for allegedly sexually abusing a nine-year-old girl in the Bulkachuwa community of Katagum Local Government Area.
The incident occurred on June 14, 2026, at about 5 pm when the suspect lured the young hawker, who was selling soya bean cakes, to an uncompleted building under the pretext of buying from her before assaulting her.
According to police spokesperson CSP Nafiu Habib, the affected child’s father reported the matter at the Bulkachuwa Divisional Police Headquarters on June 15. The affected person sustained injuries to her private parts and was immediately taken to the Primary Health Care Centre in Bulkachuwa for medical treatment.
During interrogation, the suspect confessed to committing the crime more than once. He also admitted threatening to kill the affected child with a knife if she disclosed the incidents to her parents.
Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned the act in strong terms and reiterated the command’s zero tolerance for sexual violence against children. He has ordered a thorough investigation into the case.
The police assured the public that the case will be diligently prosecuted. This incident follows a similar case in May 2026, when a 70-year-old man was arrested for sexually abusing a 10-year-old girl in Toro Local Government Area of the state.
