NECO Breaks Silence on 2026 SSCE Results, Sets September Release Timeline
The National Examinations Council (NECO) has announced that the results of the 2026 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) will be released by the first week of September or earlier, providing clarity for thousands of students awaiting their academic outcomes.
The Federal Ministry of Education said the announcement followed the successful introduction of Computer-Based Testing (CBT) for the 2026 SSCE, describing the move as part of efforts to improve examination integrity and reduce malpractice.
NECO Registrar, Professor Ibrahim Dantani Wushishi, disclosed that 1,378,048 candidates registered for the examination, including more than 700,000 female candidates. He assured students and families that the results timeline would allow candidates to make informed decisions about their next educational steps.
From a child protection perspective, education stakeholders emphasise that timely release of examination results is important in protecting children’s right to uninterrupted learning opportunities. Delays or uncertainty around academic progression can affect students’ access to further education, scholarships and career pathways.
The Federal Government also said it is working with stakeholders to expand CBT infrastructure nationwide, assuring that no student would be disadvantaged because of limited access to technology.
As students await their results, education advocates have called for continued investment in accessible, fair and transparent examination systems that support every child’s right to quality education.
