9-Year-Old Nigerian Girl Inspires Children With Her Passion for Mathematics

Charlotte Muritala, a 9-year-old girl from Ofa, Kwara State, is making waves for her passion for math and her dedication to teaching others.

Charlotte, a JSS2 student, has always had a passion for numbers and has been working on more and more difficult mathematical problems.

In an interview with Channels Television, Charlotte said she loves mathematics because she finds numbers interesting and solving difficult questions rewarding.

When she comes across a difficult problem, she divides it up into smaller sections and solves each one in turn.

Her approach is an important part of child development, providing children with opportunities to explore their interests can help to develop confidence, persistence and problem solving skills.

Charlotte has also brought her passion out of the classroom. She has an online platform with her mother to share math lessons with other children on TikTok.

She feels happy and proud to be able to use her knowledge to help others, she said.

Charlotte’s maths teacher said she was an outstanding student with a passion for solving maths problems, and that more should be invested in children who have exceptional academic ability.

The teacher commented that qualified teachers, scholarships and sufficient funding would enable more children to discover and develop their talents.

Maths is not just a school subject for Charlotte. It has become a means of learning, sharing knowledge and encouraging other children.

She told the children who find maths difficult not to give up but to practise and learn from their errors.

Her narrative is a testament to the fact that early identification and nurturing of children’s talents can lead to a sense of confidence and inspiration for others.
