A solar eclipse will be visible across much of North America on April 8. In Greenville, the eclipse will occur between 1:51 and 4:24 p.m., peaking at 3:09 p.m. with 82% coverage of the sun. Due to the potential risk of students damaging their vision during the eclipse, especially during dismissal times for elementary and middle schools, the decision was made, after consulting with science experts, principals, and district leadership, that it poses a danger as students may not be able to avoid eye damage during transitions such as riding the bus or walking home.
