Letter: Priority should be given to achievement in classrooms.

In response to Lana Cohen’s recent article on academic challenges in Portland’s classrooms, Samuel Rosenthal expresses concern, echoing sentiments likely shared by many parents. As a volunteer at Portland High School, he defends teachers’ competency but highlights issues such as grade inflation and the self-selection process for honours courses. Rosenthal calls for a shift from the school board’s equity focus to prioritising academic achievement in line with the Portland Promise.
