The Federal Government, through Minister of Education Tahir Mamman, announced that starting this year, only candidates aged 18 years and above will be eligible for admission into tertiary institutions. The directive was issued during the 2024 policy meeting in Abuja.

The Minister announced that Nigeria’s law now prohibits the admission of underage students to tertiary institutions. The minimum age requirement for admission has been raised to 18 years old. He emphasized that no one should recommend anyone younger than 18 years old for admission, underscoring the strict adherence to this guideline.
