Children Under 18 Have No Business with Make-Up, Child Coach Warns

Child Coach and advocate, Mrs. Olugbemisola Osagiede-Daramola, has made a passionate call to parents and schools to discourage children under 18 from using make-up, describing it as inappropriate for their age.

In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Osagiede-Daramola, who is also the Founder of Olugbemisola Daramola Child Welfare Foundation, emphasized that make-up is meant for adults and not for young girls still developing emotionally and mentally.

“When underage children start applying make-up, it robs them of their innocent look and throws them out into the world,” she said. “They are still young and lack the emotional maturity to withstand pressure from sexual abusers.”

The child coach condemned the sight of schoolgirls in uniform with heavy make-up or gelled hair, calling it “absurd” and a dangerous shift from modesty.

She urged:

  • Parents to be vigilant and guide their children away from early exposure to adult beauty trends.
  • School authorities to enforce dress codes strictly and discipline students who violate them.
  • Students to choose modesty and discipline over fashion trends.

“Make-up is used by adults to cover blemishes and enhance beauty moderately. Children should not be concerned with such,” she added.

Her message serves as a wake-up call for society to protect the innocence and future of the girl-child.
