Child Abduction

Kogi Bandit Attack: Four-Month-Old Baby, Abducted Mother Rescued

A mother and her four-month-old baby have been rescued by security operatives following their abduction during a bandit attack in Egbe, Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State.

The incident occurred on Wednesday evening when suspected bandits invaded the Ijalu compound area along the Solid Rock School axis of the community. During the attack, the armed assailants reportedly abducted the woman and her infant, triggering fear among residents and raising concerns about the safety of children and families in the area.

The affected persons were rescued through a coordinated operation involving local security personnel in Egbe and troops of the Nigerian Army. Security operatives launched an immediate search effort after receiving reports of the abduction and worked jointly to track down the attackers.

The successful rescue has brought relief to the community. However, the incident highlights the growing risks faced by children living in areas affected by insecurity. Child rights advocates have repeatedly warned that abductions, armed attacks and displacement expose children to physical harm, emotional trauma and disruptions to their development.

Security experts note that infants and young children are among the most vulnerable during violent attacks because they depend entirely on caregivers for protection and survival. Incidents involving children also underscore the broader humanitarian impact of insecurity on families and communities.

Residents have called for stronger security measures to prevent future attacks and ensure that children can grow up in safe environments free from fear and violence.
