Lagos Turns Alausa Purple as Government Steps Up Fight to Protect Children From Domestic, Sexual Violence
The Lagos State Government has initiated the “Turn Alausa Purple” campaign to sensitize the public on domestic and sexual violence, and to create safer homes and communities for children and other residents.
The campaign is being spearheaded by the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) under the auspices of the 2026 Domestic and Sexual Violence Awareness Month, with the support of the Lagos State government.
Head of Service, Bode Agoro, stated that domestic and sexual violence can only be prevented if individuals, government institutions and communities act. He encouraged public servants and the public to come forward to report abuse, to help those who have been affected and to refer those who need help to the right services.
Better awareness and reporting systems are important for children to help build safe environments in which they can report violence and feel safe.
The initiative will involve the lighting of government buildings, offices and other strategic locations around Alausa in purple, the colour of the domestic and sexual violence awareness campaign.
The campaign is designed to be more than just a visual display, it is designed to promote discussion and action against violence, DSVA Executive Secretary, Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi said.
She encouraged individuals who are victims of violence, as well as those who observe or suspect violence, to speak out and get the proper help.
The agency also urged schools, families, communities, private organisations and the media to provide accurate information on prevention, reporting and available support services.
The Lagos State Government stated that the campaign is part of the overall efforts to boost prevention, support affected individuals, access to justice and safer communities.
