Manassas City Schools Closed Due to Cybersecurity Incident

Manassas City Public Schools announced that all schools will be closed on Monday following a cybersecurity incident that disrupted internet and phone services across the district over the weekend.

In a letter to families, Superintendent Kevin Newman said the decision was made “out of an abundance of caution” to protect the safety and security of students, teachers, and staff.

While no physical threats were reported, the closure gives school IT teams and outside cybersecurity experts time to secure and restore affected systems. The district is actively investigating the incident, though further details have not yet been released.

Classes are expected to resume on Wednesday, Nov. 12, after the Veterans Day holiday.

Superintendent Newman acknowledged the disruption and inconvenience for families but reassured the community that the district is committed to transparency and will provide ongoing updates.

This incident highlights the growing importance of digital safety in schools. Children have a right to access education in a safe and secure environment.
