After O.J. Simpson’s death on April 10, his lawyer had vowed that the Goldman family would not benefit from his estate. However, a probate judge in Nevada has approved a plan to auction valuable items from Simpson’s estate, including a Heisman Trophy, an SUV, golf clubs, and his driver’s license. Proceeds from the auction will go to Ronald Goldman’s family.

In 1994, O.J. Simpson was charged with the double murder of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldman. He was acquitted in criminal court in 1995 but was later found liable in civil court and ordered to pay $33.5 million in wrongful death lawsuits filed by the victims’ families.

O.J. Simpson paid very little to the Goldman family over the years, and by the time of his death in April, he owed them over $100 million due to accrued interest. As of July 2024, Ronald Goldman’s father, Fred, stated that Simpson’s estate owes a total of $117.04 million to the family.

Goldman filed a creditor claim against Simpson’s estate in Clark County, Nevada, which is why the Goldman family is expected to receive funds from the auction. Despite this, Simpson’s estate attorney, Malcolm LaVergne, had previously stated that he would prefer the Goldman family not receive any money.

Malcolm LaVergne, Simpson’s estate attorney, initially stated he hoped the Goldman family would receive nothing from the estate and would do everything in his power to prevent it. However, he has since reversed his stance, and the Goldman family is expected to receive funds from the estate. LaVergne will now select an auction house to conduct the sale, and the process will proceed from there.
