Oyo, Borno School Abductions: Tinubu Assures Safe Return as Pupils, Teachers Mark 41 Days in Captivity

President Bola Tinubu has assured Nigerians that the Federal Government is working to secure the safe return of pupils and teachers abducted in attacks across Oyo and Borno states.

The assurance comes as affected persons in Oyo State mark 41 days in captivity, raising fresh concern among families and communities over their safety.

The abducted pupils and teachers were taken on May 15 after armed attackers invaded Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota, Community Grammar School, and L.A. Primary School in Esiele.

Fear spread among residents shortly after the attacks. Many families continue to demand urgent action to bring back those taken.

On the same day, suspected insurgents attacked Mussa Primary and Junior Secondary School in Askira-Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.

Several pupils and students were taken during the attack, which occurred while classes were ongoing.

Community reports showed that the attackers arrived in the morning and forced learners out of the school premises. Some students escaped during the confusion.

The situation has renewed concerns about school safety, especially in areas near the Sambisa Forest region.

Speaking at the inauguration of the remodelled Premier Hotel in Ibadan, Oyo State, Tinubu said the government is deploying multiple measures to tackle kidnapping and other security threats.

He said security agencies are working to rescue the abducted persons and strengthen protection around vulnerable communities and schools.

Tinubu urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and support security agencies by sharing useful information that could aid rescue efforts.

He also called on traditional and religious leaders to support efforts aimed at restoring peace in affected communities.

Meanwhile, families in Oyo and Borno continue to wait anxiously as the situation enters a prolonged phase, with the Oyo group of affected persons spends 41 days in captivity.

The recent attacks have intensified calls for stronger school security measures to ensure pupils and teachers can learn without fear.
