Child Abduction

Ibadan in Panic as Twin Children, Sister of Ex-Minister of Power, Are Abducted

The abduction of the sister of a former Minister of Power and her twin children in Ibadan has intensified concerns over child safety and protection in Oyo State. The incident has drawn renewed attention to the vulnerability of children during school runs and daily movements.

The Oyo State Police Command confirmed that it has begun investigations into the incident, which occurred in the early hours of Wednesday in Ibadan. Police said tactical teams have been deployed to track down the abductors and secure the safe return of the affected persons.

According to family accounts, the woman was attacked while taking her twin sons to school. The children, both 12 years old, were reportedly taken alongside her during the incident.

The attack has raised alarm among residents, especially parents who rely on early morning transportation for school-age children. Many now express fear over the safety of children during routine movements within the city.

From a child protection perspective, the incident highlights growing risks faced by children outside school premises. These risks extend beyond classrooms to roads, neighbourhoods, and transport routes used daily.

Authorities recovered the victim’s vehicle shortly after the incident. Police say investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the abduction.

Meanwhile, security officials have urged residents to remain calm and provide useful information that could assist rescue efforts. They also assured the public that all necessary resources have been deployed.

Child rights advocates warn that repeated attacks involving children can create fear and disrupt access to education. They stress the need for stronger community surveillance and rapid emergency response systems.

As investigations continue, families across Ibadan are calling for urgent action to improve child safety. Many say the incident reflects a broader need to strengthen protection measures for children in public spaces.
