Pregnant Woman Among Four Abducted in Niger Night Raid as Unborn Child Faces Heightened Risk

Armed men abducted a pregnant woman and three other women during a night attack on Maikadauri village in Kontagora Local Government Area of Niger State, intensifying fears for the unborn child and exposing worsening insecurity in the region.
The attack occurred on Monday when the assailants invaded the community under the cover of darkness. Residents said the gunmen moved through the village, forcing victims away before escaping into nearby routes.
One person was reportedly killed during the raid. The assault left the community in panic as families fled or hid to avoid further harm.
A local vigilante identified as Amos attempted to respond during the attack. He was shot in the leg while trying to assist residents and contain the situation.
Concern has grown over the condition of the pregnant woman in captivity. Community members say her situation is particularly distressing due to potential medical risks and lack of access to care.
A resident, Habibu Mohammed, said attacks on outskirt communities have continued despite repeated security responses. He called for stronger intervention to stop the pattern of violence affecting rural areas.
The latest raid came just a day after two young men, Sidiq Musa and Bashar Bisalla, were killed in Wawa, Borgu Local Government Area, while collecting firewood. Residents said the killings have increased fear among those who depend on forest routes for livelihood.
Reports also indicate that at least seven young men have been killed in the Wawa forest over the past 110 days during similar activities. The pattern has heightened anxiety across surrounding communities.
Efforts to reach the spokesperson of the Niger State Police Command, SP Wasiu Abiodun, were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
