Ike Okoye, a retired teacher from Isuofia, was arrested for allegedly engaging in inappropriate activities with young males.
The arrest was made by the Anambra State Government through the Ministry of Women and Social Welfare and Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra. The incident was reported by Chief Chikadibia Okeke, President-General of Isuofia People’s Assembly. Okoye initially denied the allegations but later admitted to some inappropriate behavior.
Two victims, now aged 25 and 31, shared their experiences, stating that Okoye approached them under the guise of offering financial assistance or paid work. The victims allege that Okoye’s behavior had been ongoing for years, starting when they were younger.
According to reports, previous attempts to arrest Okoye were thwarted by influential individuals intervening on his behalf. The suspect has been handed over to the police for further investigation and is expected to face court charges.
Government officials expressed concern over the incident and reaffirmed their commitment to combating child molestation and related issues in the state.
