The West Middlesex Area School District has received a $15,000 grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture to enhance access to healthy, local food and promote hands-on learning for students in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade. The funding supports the “Stronger Communities, Deeper Roots” project, which aims to transform elementary STEM education by installing aquaponic systems in science classrooms. This program engages students in hands-on activities to inspire a love for local food and nurture future scientists. The district was awarded the maximum grant amount as part of over $460,000 distributed in Farm-to-Table grants across the state.
