A North Dakota woman, Patricia Wick, received a prison sentence of nearly 19 years for her involvement in the death of a baby and the injury of another child at her unlicensed home child care center. Wick pleaded guilty to felony charges of murder and child abuse, as well as a misdemeanor for operating an unlicensed daycare. She was sentenced to 40 years in prison, with 20 years suspended, and must register as an offender against children. The charges stemmed from head and neck injuries sustained by a 5-month-old baby, leading to his death being ruled a homicide. Another child under Wick’s care suffered a broken arm, allegedly due to a fall, which was not immediately reported to the parents. Wick admitted to mishandling the baby and delayed action after the child showed distress symptoms.
