Over the past week, a series of militant attacks on schools across Nigeria has resulted in the abduction of more than 80 children.
The incidents occurred in two distinct regions:
Borno State (Northeast): Between Wednesday and Thursday, militants targeted a primary school in the village of Mussa (near the Sambisa Forest, a known Boko Haram and ISWAP stronghold). They abducted 42 children from the Askira Uba and Chibok areas.
Oyo State (Southwest): On Friday, two secondary schools were attacked just hours apart, leading to the abduction of at least 40 children. Amnesty International noted that such kidnappings are highly unusual for this part of the country.
