A recent study in Psychological Medicine indicates that childhood trauma can significantly impact how children learn to respond to fear, potentially leading to increased PTSD symptoms in adolescence. Researchers found that children with trauma histories exhibited stronger physiological responses to threats during fear-learning tasks, which correlated with a rise in PTSD symptoms over time. Given that nearly half of U.S. children experience some form of adversity, understanding the links between childhood trauma and mental health issues is crucial for developing preventive interventions.
