For families who once viewed America’s most prestigious colleges as financially out of reach, the price of an elite education is changing. At least 21 top U.S. institutions are expanding grant-based financial aid, with some offering free tuition, and in some cases room and board, to students from middle-income families earning as much as $250,000 a year.
