Michael Cornell, superintendent of Hamburg Central School District for nine years, announced his resignation effective at the end of the year during the district’s reorganizational meeting. Despite facing calls for resignation earlier in the year, Cornell emerged as a local education leader and served as President of the Erie Niagara Superintendents Association. His decision to retire aligns with his wife’s retirement from the North Tonawanda School District after 32 years, fulfilling their plan to retire together while still enjoying their work. Hamburg Middle School Principal Thomas “Tom” Adams has been chosen as Cornell’s successor, set to assume the role on January 5, 2025. Cornell will assist in the transition until the end of the year, and the school board expressed gratitude for his service while anticipating further updates during the leadership changeover.
