After college, the author and their partner, Anna, lived in several states during the COVID-19 pandemic while considering their future. They realized they couldn’t afford the $700,000 homes in the U.S. and were concerned about the high cost of childcare, which could reach $3,000 per month. They also wanted to raise children in a healthier, more community-oriented culture. After exploring their options, they decided to move to Costa Rica for its affordability, proximity to the U.S., and the opportunity to live in a bilingual environment.
