Joint Finance Committee Releases Aid for Communities Losing 2-Year UW Schools

< 1 min read

The Wisconsin state Legislature’s Joint Finance Committee has approved $20 million for a grant program aimed at assisting communities affected by the closure of six two-year University of Wisconsin branch campuses. Communities in Outagamie, Fond du Lac, Washington, Richland, Marinette, and Waukesha counties will be eligible for grants of up to $2 million each to support redevelopment efforts of shuttered campuses. The grants can be used for planning, demolition, and projects that promote job creation, workforce development, support small businesses, or enhance housing. The funding, previously held since March, was released following bipartisan support and will be administered by the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC), with grant applications expected to open by August 1.
