More parents chaperoning children to school as road fatality toll in Aussies under seven soars

< 1 min read

The number of road deaths among Australian children aged under seven increased by 54 per cent last year, compared to 2023, according to new data from AAMI.
Experts and parents alike are putting the spike in young children killed on the roads down to dangerous driving, with one quarter of drivers involved in the study admitting to speeding in school zones because they didn’t notice signs.
The AAMI research also shows more than half of parents are now dropping their children to school because they’re concerned for their children’s safety if they walk.
