The mother of a young woman who was abducted, raped and murdered by a police officer has spoken out with raw honesty: ever since her daughter’s death, she has been trapped in a constant state of grief, anger and fear.
In a powerful statement read during the recent public inquiry, the mother described how her life has been overwritten by an “inner sadness”, despite outward appearances of normality. She said the trauma resurfaces unpredictably, with waves of sadness, rage, panic, guilt and numbness that sometimes hit all in one day.
