Nearly 70% of Texas educators say they’re ready to leave profession, survey shows

< 1 min read

A survey conducted by the Texas American Federation of Teachers union reveals that nearly 70% of 6,000 Texas educators are considering quitting their jobs, with about 75% reporting burnout. Higher salary and manageable workload were cited as factors that could retain educators in the profession by almost 73% of respondents. Approximately 1 in 5 educators work second jobs, leaving little time for self-care or family. Teresa Razo, a pre-K dual language teacher, works as a rideshare driver after school due to inadequate income from teaching. She sees herself staying in the profession for only two more years. Razo emphasizes the need for legislative changes to benefit teachers and suggests parents can support educators by ensuring their children are well cared for and prepared for school.
