NAFDAC has issued a public notification regarding the recall of one lot of Benylin Paediatric Syrup manufactured by Johnson & Johnson due to recent toxicity findings. Laboratory analysis revealed an unacceptable high level of Diethylene glycol, causing acute oral toxicity in laboratory animals. Benylin Paediatric Syrup is intended for cough relief and treatment of allergic conditions in children aged 2 to 12 years. Diethylene glycol is highly toxic to humans and can result in severe symptoms such as abdominal pain, vomiting, altered mental state, and even death. Consumers are advised to discontinue use of the affected lot and seek medical attention if they experience any adverse effects.
