The House of Representatives has urged the Federal Ministry of Education to launch a pilot program in selected schools to explore the feasibility and benefits of using local languages as a medium of instruction. This resolution follows a motion sponsored by Hon. Kalejaiye Adeboye Paul (APC, Lagos), who emphasized the importance of promoting local languages. He highlighted Nigeria’s linguistic diversity and the decline of languages like Hausa, Igbo, and Yoruba due to the dominance of English in education. Hon. Kalejaiye argued that teaching in native languages strengthens teacher-student connections, improves learning environments, and encourages community involvement in education.
