Sophia Chapa, a first-year student at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, aspires to become an elementary school teacher, with a focus on third grade or higher. She recently substituted in a kindergarten class, which has made her consider younger students as well. Chapa is excited about a new scholarship opportunity through a partnership with the Charles Butt Foundation, which offers up to $8,000 annually for aspiring teachers who commit to addressing Texas’ teacher shortage. Chapa was among a group of students working on scholarship applications at the university.
