Six Almajiri students have tragically passed away due to a suspected meningitis outbreak in Udubo village, Gamawa local government area, Bauchi state. The chairman of the caretaker committee, Nasiru Bakura, confirmed the deaths on Friday, refuting social media reports suggesting a higher death toll. Health workers are actively managing the outbreak, with medication procured for treatment. Dr. Hassan Shu’aibu Musa, a public health expert, highlighted meningitis transmission and urged preventive measures such as vaccination and avoiding overcrowded areas. He dispelled misconceptions linking meningitis to witchcraft, emphasising consulting health professionals for symptoms like high fever.
